As the Founder and CEO of EBM SCHOLARS, LLC, he has helped thousands of students from developing countries secure scholarships and educational opportunities abroad. Ernest has been a crucial resource for African immigrants, particularly from Tanzania, assisting them in navigating overseas opportunities and the Diversity Visa Lottery, leading to a growing number of winners each year. His academic credentials include a Master's degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of San Diego. Ernest continues to inspire through his books, public seminars, and YouTube channels, EBM SCHOLARS and EBM SWAHILI, promoting immigration, education and cultural understanding.

As an award-winning DJ, he brings the vibrant sounds of Tanzania to life at diaspora events, fostering cultural connection for all generations. He even co-founded the Bongo DJs group, keeping communities entertained during the pandemic. His passion extends to sports, organizing friendly matches that reignite the diaspora's love for Tanzanian culture. Despite challenges, DJ Luke's unwavering commitment keeps him a pillar of support for his community. Dr. Mary Banda

Board certified in Internal Medicine with over 25 years of experience in hospital medicine, engaging with students as a clinical medicine instructor, and professional consultation. I have both volunteered and led several medical missions to India, Haiti, and Tanzania. My global medicine interest enabled me to pioneer the construction of Kashambya Medical Center in Tanzania which has been operational since September 2021, rendering outpatient services, inpatient, surgery, free maternal child health clinic, labor, and delivery.
Dr. Frank Minja

Frank J. Minja MD, is Associate Professor of Neuroradiology at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Minja is passionate about establishing curriculum-based radiology sub-specialty training programs in East Africa. Dr. Minja co-leads the Road2IR.org consortium which established the first Interventional Radiology Fellowship (2019) in East Africa. To date the IR Fellowship has graduated 13 Alumni from Tanzania, Nigeria, and Rwanda. Dr. Minja was also Program Director for the RSNA Global Learning Center (GLC) in Tanzania, which has helped to establish Fellowships in Neuroradiology (2020) and Women’s Imaging (2022) at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

David's commitment to the Tanzanian diaspora began with founding Pamoja We Can Harambee USA in March 2016. His efforts have greatly enhanced the social and economic well-being of Tanzanians abroad, earning him the Distinguished Service to Diaspora Award.
Under his leadership, the organization has connected over 3,800 Tanzanians in North America, fostering unity and community solidarity. A key achievement is the rapid support to bereaved families, providing $20,000 within 24 to 72 hours of a loved one's passing. In the past year alone, over $480,000 was disbursed, totaling over $2 million since inception. David’s perseverance has expanded support from community leaders and extended outreach to the East African diaspora, including the UK and Belgium. His dedication to fostering a cohesive, empowered diaspora highlights his exceptional service and visionary leadership.

Melanie Mpanju

Melanie Mpanju is an Advisor to the Deputy White House Counsel under the Biden-Harris Administration. In this role, Melanie assists in advising on legal aspects of the President's racial equity and justice agenda. Melanie previously served as a Research Assistant and Staff Assistant on the Committee on Oversight and Reform in the U.S. House of Representatives. Melanie developed her passion in public policy through various prestigious internships at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Trade and Development Bank in Nairobi, and the Global Green Growth Institute in Seoul. Melanie graduated with distinction from the University of British Columbia and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Law & Society.

Clara Rulegura Ford, CEO of Kijiji Innovative Sustainable Solutions (K.I.S.S.), is a passionate advocate for sustainable development. An alumna of the Clinton Global Initiative University, Clara holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and dual master’s degrees in Applied Economics and Sustainability & Development from SMU. With over a decade of experience in commercial lending and finance as a Senior Associate Examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Clara is committed to advancing economic development in Tanzania, her home country. Inspired by her parents' emphasis on public service, Clara co-founded K.I.S.S. with Dr. Thomas Osang to foster sustainable growth in rural Tanzanian villages. Her current focus is on the K.I.S.S. She has also used the proceeds from her business to sponsor multiple childrens' education in Karatu, Tanzania so that orphans from Shalom Orphanage Center are properly educated and given the chance to brighten their futures. Dr. Mathias Kaaya

Dr. Kaaya's extensive educational career includes teaching Math and Swahili at Berkeley High School, Santa Cruz State University, and UC Berkeley. In July 1995, he co-founded the Tanzanian Community Organization in Northern California and served as Vice Chairperson before becoming Chairman from 2014 until 2020. Dr. Kaaya has been a cornerstone of the Tanzanian community, working behind the scenes to foster relationships and address community needs. His notable contributions include maintaining the Bagamoyo-Vallejo sister city relationship and collaborating with city officials on various projects. Under his leadership, he organized events hosting Tanzanian dignitaries such as Dr. Jakaya M. Kikwete and other high-profile figures. Additionally, Dr. Kaaya has bridged American donors with Tanzanian orphanages and the albino society, showcasing his relentless commitment.
Rodney Kassala

Mr. Kassala, a founding member of the Southern California Tanzanian Community, served as President for two years. Early in his tenure, he united various diaspora groups, including DICOTA, Pamoja We Can, and Tanzania Diaspora Hub (TDH), to enhance collaboration. He contributed to the Tanzania Diaspora Policy, using his legal expertise to shape special status policies. As Assistant Chairman of the Legal Committee for TDH, he advises on legal matters related to investments in Tanzania. As a lawyer in both Tanzania and California (Kassala Associates), he has provided crucial legal services to the diaspora, particularly with immigration issues in Los Angeles. His articles have offered valuable advice on various matters. In 2022, Mr. Kassala founded Asili Yangu Mtanzania, a nonprofit aimed at educating young diasporans about Tanzania’s culture and Swahili. The organization aspires to become a central hub for the Tanzanian diaspora.

Dr. Ndaga Mwakatuba

Ndaga’s journey of leadership spans as DICOTA President from 2011 to 2016, Acting Secretary and Treasurer in 2010, Chair of the Bylaws Committee in 2011. He has led planning for several conventions, including the first DICOTA Convention in Houston, TX in 2009, the 2010 convention in Minneapolis, MN, 2011 DICOTA Convention in the DMV. Ndaga spearheaded the ratification of bylaws, the establishment of robust financial protocols, and pivotal relationships with influential sponsors and government agencies. Throughout his tenure, Ndaga navigated challenges with resilience and strategic foresight, maintaining high-road approaches, resolving conflicts, and steer DICOTA through turbulent waters underscores his exceptional leadership acumen. Ndaga's tenure also brought pivotal advancements to DICOTA, including the attainment of federal tax-exempt status (501(c)(3)) in 2012 and diaspora engagement in constitutional reviews. Motivated by a deep personal commitment, Ndaga continues to invest countless hours, resources, and talents into DICOTA's mission. He is the reason why DICOTA keeps going.
Dr. Frank Minja

Dr. Minja has been a true leader of Tanzanian diaspora taking multiple initiatives to ensure the wellbeing of Tanzanians abroad and at home. Prior to assuming the role as President with DICOTA, he was a member-at-large with the Executive Committee and spearheaded the first DICOTA Health forum in 2017. Thereafter, after being elected as President in 2019, he led the second DICOTA Health Forum in 2019. He has been instrumental in leading many webinars, including to help Tanzanian men discuss their health issues and encourage them to make regular checkups for early detection of non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cancer. He was also at the forefront to organize Tanzanian diasporas to donate money and supplies to send to Tanzania to help with the Covid-19 pandemic. Through his initiatives multiple diagnostic kits and tools were purchased and sent to Tanzania and were donated to Tanzanian ministry of health for distribution at various primary health facilities. Dr. Minja also led efforts to facilitate diaspora input to inform the Hadhi Maalum process in 2020, including a survey of over 400 diasporas to identify requests, majority of which have been included in the draft diaspora policy. Dr. Minja has continued to be engaged with DICOTA after the end of his period, and facilitating different activities, including state-level meet and greets and diaspora Hadhi Maalum bill reviews.

A natural drummer, he excelled in academics and soccer before fully embracing his percussion passion. His leadership roles in school and media amplified his cultural advocacy. From preserving Tanzania's heritage in schools to producing programs like "Dar Wiki Hii," Kapanga's commitment to his roots is unwavering. Now based in America, he teaches Kiswahili, hosts the Pambazuka Show, and collaborates with renowned drummers, bridging Tanzanian rhythms with global audiences. As Chairman of Tanzanians in Dallas Fort-Worth, he continues to unite his community and promote Tanzanian culture.

Dr. Msia Kibona Clark is a professor of African feminist and cultural studies in the African Studies Department at Howard University. She has a deep understanding of the complexities of the African continent and has dedicated her career to studying and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Tanzania. As a community leader, she has worked closely with Tanzanian organizations both in the diaspora and back home to support initiatives in education, health, and economic development. After numerous publications and featured keynote talks, she has become a respected voice in academic and cultural communities, serving as a bridge between Tanzania and its diaspora around the world.

Asya Idarous Khamsin, revered as the "mother of Tanzanian fashion," is a trailblazing designer and philanthropist. Rahel's love for Tanzania fueled her creation of Travel with ILAVA, a unique tourism experience focused on crafting personalized adventures. Deo Nestory Shija Jr. is an international lawyer registered in Tanzania since 2015. He has played a key role in aligning Tanzanian legislation with international standards, notably contributing to the Cybersecurity Law while working with the Ministry of Science and Technology and experts like Dr. Alex Makulilo. In the U.S., Deo earned a Master of Science in International Relations from Virginia International University and a Master of Law in Legislative Process from American University Washington College of Law, graduating in May 2024. His advanced studies have deepened his expertise in U.S. foreign policy and Tanzanian legislative matters. Deo has advised both U.S. and Tanzanian companies on foreign policies and supported his DMV Tanzania Diaspora community on U.S. immigration and Tanzanian laws. Calvin, the first Tanzanian to earn three Harvard degrees, exemplifies academic and professional excellence. Holding a Bachelor’s in Bioengineering, a Master’s in Biotechnology, and an MBA from Harvard, Calvin’s achievements are groundbreaking. He was admitted to PhD programs at Stanford, Columbia, and other Ivy League institutions, reflecting his extraordinary academic prowess. As the first African and Black individual in his MS/MBA cohort and the first to be admitted to multiple Harvard schools simultaneously, Calvin’s accomplishments are inspirational. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he contributed to vaccine development at Moderna and later supported life sciences investments at Gates Ventures, focusing on Alzheimer’s diagnostics. Calvin is also a dedicated mentor. He founded F-1 Careers, guiding international students through their academic and professional paths in the U.S. His journey from Maasai in Arusha to Harvard highlights the transformative power of education and his commitment to global progress.
